MIGRAINE PROCEDURE

The SphenoBlock is a novel approach for the treatment of cluster headache and migraine. Neural activity through the sphenopalatine ganglion is involved in the pathophysiology of migraine and cluster headache. Transmission of this signals is dependent on the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) in the ganglion. Botulinum toxin, as for example Botox®, inhibits the release of ACh and therefore blocks the signals. Duration of autonomic blocks with botulinum toxin is expected to be in the range of 3-9 months and would have to be repeated regularly.

Medical images taken before the first injection can be reused for repeated treatments.
